mug mug mug

ignore this

this is called positive self talking

“you can do it. Finish this stuff and you are 70% done for this subject. wake up early tomorrow to conquer your favourite topic and by afternoon you can start on another favourite topic.”

the favourite here is not sacastic. I really loved the 2 topics i am going to study tmr.

and pirates was not bad. Waiting for the credits to roll to watch the last bit is not worth it. Only do that if you are a true pirate fan cause the credits are damn fucking long. I spotted a position called accounting intern too.

Blur Miss Pooh

That Miss Pooh is the ultimate.

She messaged a friend “Happy birthday XXXXX, 3 minutes left to the end of your birthday!!!!!!!”

And she made 3 mistakes

1) She messaged the wrong friend
2) It was 13 minutes since it was 1147pm instead of 1157pm.
3) It was the wrong day.

You tell me who is as blur as Miss Pooh?????

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

A,B,E

I read the forum page this morning and I am flabbergasted. A mother was writing in to ask why her daughter’s grades of A,B,E and C(GP) was not good enough for the 3 local unis. She claimed ” My daughter is an above average student. She has met all the criteria for entry to a local university. Is being eligible not enough? Must one now get extraordinary grades to be granted a place in university?”

“Local universities are publicly funded. Isn’t it about loyalty and kinship that citizens are given a chance to study there as long as they are eligible for entry? ”

” My son who is 27 years old and has A level grades of A,B,C graduated with a second upper class honours degree in the Arts and Social Science Sciences at NUS. ”

Nothing like such a forum letter to let me get rifed up early in the morning (after major motion sickness which left me puking and giddy- if only i can sue SBS)

Let me put my thoughts here.
E is a bad grade. Period. The mother claimed that A,B,E with a C6 in GP are grades achieved by an above-average student. I serious begged to differ. Here i am trying to flunk the assumption that people who gets A,B,E are above average. People who obtained the grades above should seriously be worried when applying to the local universities. People whom I have heard of getting B,C,Ds are worried about repeating a year to get better results to get into Universities. A,B,E is way off esp the damn E which is staring at me straight in the eye. And C for GP is bad, bad, bad. I know parents have better perceptions of their children but thinking their child is above average when their child is average and even below average, calls for some judgment.

“She has met all the criteria for entry to a local university. Is being eligible not enough? Must one now get extraordinary grades to be granted a place in university?” And I love this line. The answer is YES YES YES. Of course being eligible is not good enough. If being eligible calls for a place in University, I am worried for the standards of the Univerisities. The eligibility is actually a requirement put for formality sake and most of the time, no one even looks at it. Stretching my argument a tad far, if being eligible for the medicine and law faculty meant that I have met all the criteria for entries into these 2 facs and should deserve a place, then why the hell so many of us are rejected year after year and no one complains that he/she has obtained the minimum requirements to study the med/law courses. Because “welcome to reality in singapore.” No one owes you a living and no one owes you an education.

Will a student with debatable results be given a place compared to someone who did ostensibly better? No NO NO. Universities of course are aiming for the best students to take in, and why should you be disgrunted about this?

“Local universities are publicly funded. Isn’t it about loyalty and kinship that citizens are given a chance to study there as long as they are eligible for entry? ” With due respect Mdm, refer to my doc, law argument and stop thinking about loyalty and kinship. These 2 qualities are not going to feed anyone. If everybody who are eligible for entry gets into universities, then i will suggest to the universities to raise the bar and up the requirement entries so that we can stop responding to forum letters like these. But seriously, yes local universities are publicly funded, but there are limited space and facilities. NUS,NTU and SMU only has limited vacancies and they are giving local students to have a chance to study there. Last time i checked local students are still in universities. However with a limited number of vacancies, they have the higher bargaining power and are able to chose the students that applied. Needless to say, we know whether they chose outstanding students or students which make the eligible requirements.

” My son who is 27 years old and has A level grades of A,B,C graduated with a second upper class honours degree in the Arts and Social Science Sciences at NUS. ” Sigh oh Sigh. A difference of 5-9 years of entries marks a world of difference between the entry grades. I was able to get into accountancy with BBB and an A2 in Gp, 1420 in SAT 3 years ago. WIth my grades today, I will be worried about the courses I can take. The number of A students every year seemed to be increasing every year and comparisions across different years will prove to be inaccurate.

Enough ranting and ignore the bitchiness in the above paragraphs. The lesson here is ” do not let your mom write a forum letter.” But more importantly, how do you secure a position in the universities if you have less than stellar grades eg ABE

1) Understand your bargaining power. With less than desirable grades, do not waste your chance and apply for the popular courses. Apply to the courses which people are seldom interested in to shift from a low bargaining power to a higher bargaining power
2) And so what are the popular courses? Business and Accounting courses are out. Law, Med too. Certain engineering courses are popular (chem engine) while others are unpopular. So do your research and hunt for the unpopular ones
3) What if I really dislike the courses i am left with? Re-evaluate your choices. In that case, are you willing to retake A levels? If not, are there other private institutions in which you can take a professional degree eg ACCA for accounting students?
4) Be realistic. What you are learning in universities may/may not be the jobs you will worklater. I am not going to be an accountant or auditor (unless no job). Engineers do not necessary be engineers when they graduate. Alot of them go into the banks.

So good luck and I hope you manage to get into a university.

we all have those days

I just hate this particular subject. I think there is only one subject which i blogged continously about, cried quite a fair bit about.

Today while studying for the finals, i just can’t take the stress and cried again. With friends who aimed for As while studying for this course, the stress is phenomenal. I am just aiming for a pathetic B. So don’t give me any C.

The feelings of despair and helplessness just seemed to engulf me whenever I study this subject. And don’t remind me why i hate my degree.

meetups

Ok, i think my blog entry on phantom of the opera is super long overdue. SO i will just say that its great. And i am so glad I went to catch it. I think the guy playing the Phantom has a powerful voice which can convey emotions very well. The Phantom is supposed to be the bad guy but I can understand his anguish and obession with Christine that I emphatise with him. The other actors are so-so but the sets are omfg. I particularly love the scene where he brought her to his dungeon and he was on a boat with her. They turned the stage into a river, which was like wow! I was humming along to the songs since I really loved Phantom.

I watched Spiderman and it was great too.

I am going to watch pirates and I am sure it will be great.

I met up with Mr-think-he-is-so-charming and Mr Fag separately yesterday. Fag and I went to Mahattan’s FIsh Market at PS for dinner and the service and food is great. Poor Fag landed up in hospital after eating mussels and tomatoes a few days ago which meant, i have to eat the 4 mussels but hey, i am not complaining.

Mr-Think-He-Is-So-Charming is quite kwai-lan. My time is quite precious and he made me thronged Funan IT Mall with him. We walked for 1 over hour while looking for his stuff. Hate hate hate. I think he could sense my displeasure after 1 hr (gee, that’s fast) and we sat down for dinner and catched up with each other’s life. Mr Jie-mei couldn’t rush over in time so i think we shall see each other next year.

I am going to meet my last group of friends this tues before gearing up for the exams and then bye Singapore, Hi Shanghai.

Remember the weight-gaining mission? I have been eating all the unhealthy food and indulging since I am leaving. And I think when I reached Shanghai, I will be indulging again since this is my first time there. And i think i am pretty good at making up excuses. :D

those vaccinations

Finally got my ass down to the polyclinic for vaccinations. I called my family doc and he said there is no need for vaccinations but to make my dad less worried, i hauled my ass down to the polyclinic to get some jabs. In the end I took flu and typhoid jabs. One on each arm, which lead to me having a hard time sleeping since both arms are painful to rest on.

The nurse need to ascertain that I am not pregnant before taking the vaccinations. Since i was quite unsure about my the last date of my period, she sort of threatened that I have to take the pregnancy test. Which almost lead me to tell her my most inner secret about being a virgin

And then she dropped the bombshell. “You are married right?”

“huh? No. I am single.” ANd the part about single and available almost rolled off my tongue too.

Damn it, the polyclinic records showed that I am married at 22. And she must be thinking, wah marry so young must be shot-gun. Somemore going to china to wor.

And after taking both vaccinations, i felt tired the whole day :( I didn’t study :(:(:(

And now i got flu.

Ohwait, didn’t I just take the flu jab yesterday?

Update: i told my dad abt the flu vaccination not working. And he said: Its a matter of time before you fall sick. you always fall sick without enough sleep :(”

Don’t study

can you imagine? my parents told me not to study when my exams are just one step away. hahahahahahhaha. I have been too hardworking until they can’t stand the late nights I have been putting up with. Late nights = can’t get up = irritated dad at sleepy daughter

My bedtime is rather eratic. With the sleep debt i have been accumulating, I think i have to write an IOU to my sleep and repay 2 weeks later. I have never worked so hard before. :D

sim lim hate

I hate going to sim lim square. because

female+ignorant=walking vegetable head (cai tao)

hate hate hate hate hate

I went to get my laptop adaptor and knn the first person quoted me 160. I got it for 80 in the end. Fuck right?

And now i need to get digital cameras so i went with my friend. But we end up looking like vegetable heads more than ever. Because the effect is amplified with 2 ignorant females.

pui. and they quote me all sorts of lousy prices. BUT we are not so stupid ok? At least we know Olympus not good. And KNN all try to sell to me. And even dare to ask me why Olympus not good? Oei, you all sell digital cameras, you should know it better than me

Sian.

And my mother is getting quite scary. You know she used to be the type that told me to get a BF only after i finished studying. Which means frigging 23 lah. And I always tell her it will be too late. And after watching the channel 8 show with aileen tan being single at 40, she got brainwashed and told me to follow my sister if she goes to a dating agency at 25. Cause i was saying 30 will be my limit and I will be going to them for help.

25 is not that far away :(
